Mungyeong city to hold international paragliding competition in October

SEOUL, July 31 (Yonhap) -- An International paragliding competition will be held in Mungyeong, North Gyeongsang Province in October.

According to Mungyeong city on Friday, the city and the Korea Paragliding Association will be holding the “PWCA Asian Tour 2022: South Korea, Mungyeong” from October 15 till October 22 at the Mungyeong.

This competition is an international competition accredited by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI). About 130 players from 15 countries will be participating, including 7 players in the top 30 of the world ranking along with those ranking top 3 in Korea.

In this regard, the city signed a business agreement with the Korea Paragliding Association and Gin Gliders to promote paragliding, at the City Hall the day before.

Through the agreement, the three organizations and foundations agreed to cooperate hosting the Paragliding World Cup and the Asia/Oceania Championships by 2024.

They also decided to promote and support the paragliding industry in Mungyeong, in collaboration with the promotion of local tourism and specialties.

"Mungyeong Dansan Glide Factory has optimal gliding conditions that are comparable to the world's leading gliding spots,” said Song Jin-seok, president of the Korea Paragliding Association. “We will do our best to promote the activities of Paragliding in Mungyeong including hosting more world competitions.”
