SEOUL, May 12 (Yonhap) – S. Korean actress Choi Sung-eun, who is referred to as the "monster rookie" in the drama and film industry, once again showed off her presence in the Netflix series "The Sound of Magic.”
Choi confessed during a video interview for the music drama “The Sound of Magic” on Wednesday, "It took time to express my feelings through singing since I am not a good singer."
"The Sound of Magic,” based on author Ha Il-kwon’s namesake webtoon, is a fantasy music drama that contains magic, songs and choreography. Choi plays the role of Yoon Ah-yi, a girl who lost her dream due to poverty.
Choi, who has no musical experience and is the first time to sing while acting, said she took vocal lessons several months before the filming began and practiced in the recording studio.
She said, "I needed absolute rehearsal time,” adding "When I played scenes with songs or music, I was worried if the viewers would feel awkward.”
Yoon Ah-yi is a character who is too poor to change her stockings with a hole and has to worry about meals.
Choi said, "Yoon Ah-yi has a lot of burdens to carry," adding, "She is a child who wants to become an adult as soon as possible since she is a breadwinner who has to take responsibility for her younger brother instead of her parents."
The actress pointed out that she liked the scene where Yoon Ah-yi met herself as a child through magic in the drama, saying, "I want to tell Yoon that she should trust herself a little bit more.”
Regarding the mind of Yoon Ah-yi, who is frequently asked by magician Lee Eul(played by Ji Chang-wook) if she believes in magic, Choi said, "At first, I didn’t know what it was but I felt a change in my mind as I went through magical things," adding, "I think the way the child asked Lee Eul the same question at the end was her perfect answer to the question."
