SEOUL, Feb. 12 (Yonhap) -- Elias Peter Brown, the winner of the 1st KSO International Conducting Competition organized by the Korean Symphony Orchestra, will debut on S. Korea’s stage.

Elias Peter Brown’s “The Liberation” concert will be held on Feb. 17 at the Concert Hall in Seoul Arts Center, according to the Korean Symphony Orchestra.

The US conductor won first place and the orchestra award with the performance of Debussy’s “La Mer” (The Sea), showing his delicate interpretation and soft leadership, in the final of the KSO International Conducting Competition held in November 2021.

Brown said he thought of a “rising bright light” when he prepared for the program. The conductor wants to share the moment of being liberated from something with the audience.

The stage will present various styles of music including the Symphony No. 2, which shows Sibelius's unique style, Haydn: Cello Concerto No.1, written at the intersection of the age of Enlightenment and Classicism, and Lim Young-jin's world premiere, "A Bruised Reed, and a Dimly Burning Wick." Haydn: Cello Concerto No. 1 will be performed with Kim Doo-min, head of Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra.

Brown said, "I'm thrilled by the reunion with Korean Symphony, who gave me confidence and confidence as a conductor at the KSO International Conducting Competition, and I'm looking forward to what sound we will make."

“I want to be on stage as a musician who interacts with the generation through music, and as a conductor who attempts various stages for contemporary sound exploration,” added Brown.
