SEOUL, Feb. 5 (Yonhap) -- The city of Gyeongju announced on Wednesday that it will host a large-scale Hallyu comprehensive event, "Beyond K in Gyeongju," in June to support the global wave of Korean culture.
The event will take place from June 6 to 8 at the Gyeongju Arts Center in North Gyeongsang Province.
The city has secured a budget of 1.5 billion won after being selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s large-scale Hallyu comprehensive event local government linkage project.
The event will feature K-pop artists representing Hallyu culture, dance teams, overseas cover dance teams, and local dance teams.
Gyeongju will provide unique visual and culinary experiences, including performances by the iconic Shilla Gukcheo-daet, collaborations of K-culture and arts, G-fashion experiences using traditional Shilla clothing, and the development and experience of K-desserts utilizing local specialties.
To attract foreign visitors, the city will offer priority ticket reservations and discounts.
The event will be linked with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, allowing visitors to learn about tourist destinations and products.
Mayor Joo Nak-young said, “We will prepare to continue Gyeongju's global reputation as the number one tourist destination in Korea through this event.”
