SEOUL, July 22 (Yonhap) -- Heading into the weekend, director Choi Dong-hoon’s part one of “Alienoid” and Hollywood animation “Minions 2” will go head to head against one another for the top spot of the South Korean box office.
According to the integrated network of movie tickets by the Korean Film Council on Friday, both movies “Alienoid” and “Minions 2” which premiered on Wednesday, took over “Top Gun: Maverick” spot on the Korean box office and going back and forth between first and second on the chart.
“Alienoid” attracted over 281 thousand people and “Minions 2” attracted over 233 thousand audiences by Thursday which is second day of its screening.
According to the data collected on Friday at 8 a.m. the reservation rate of “Minions 2”, 27.4 percent, is leading against “Ailienoid” 25.1 percent by small gap.
“Top Gun: Maverick” release on June 22 is continuing on with its long term success was ranked third on the chart. However it attracted over 6.05 million audiences by Thursday, taking the title of the most successful foreign movie to premiere in 2022.
“Decision to Leave” by director Park Chan-wook, Marvel Studio’s hero action movie “Thor: Love and Thunder” and animation “Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween” will continue on with its screening.
Moreover, Japanese youth drama “It’s a Summer Film!”, and “A Home from Home” which deals with the subject matter of kids who are done with their child protection services premiered before the weekend.
