SEOUL, Feb. 17 (Yonhap) -- Following the tragic news of Kim Sae-ron’s passing at the age of 25, fellow celebrities have taken to social media to express their condolences.

Actress Kim Ok-bin shared a photo of a chrysanthemum on her SNS on Monday, accompanied by a brief message: “May she rest in peace.” Although she did not mention Kim Sae-ron by name, the timing of her post suggests it was a tribute to the late actress.

Kim Min-chae, who co-starred with Kim in the film The Villagers, also paid tribute. Posting a still from the movie, she wrote, “I was so happy to meet you as my daughter in the film. I hope you find peace there.”

Yel, a former member of the girl group FIESTAR, shared an image of a dandelion seed and wrote, “This is heartbreaking. The few times we met, you struck me as a loyal and kind friend. Tonight feels like it will be a long one.”

Former Hello Venus member and actress Yoo Ara posted a photo of Kim Sae-ron, saying, “I’m sorry for only nagging you instead of offering warm words. I’m sorry, I’m grateful, and I will always remember your bright, shining presence and pray for you.”

Actresses Seo Ye-ji and Seo Ha-joon also shared images of chrysanthemums as a sign of mourning. Kim Sae-ron’s former agency, Gold Medalist, issued a short statement: “We extend our deepest condolences.”

Some tributes also highlighted the excessive online hate Kim Sae-ron faced during her lifetime. Singer Migyo took to SNS, stating, “It seems people have to die before internet trolls stop. These commenters probably don’t even realize they are spreading hate.”

Fans also released a public statement addressing the issue. The Women Celebrities Gallery on DC Inside wrote, “Kim Sae-ron acknowledged her mistakes and sought to make amends, but the relentless criticism and public ostracization she endured went beyond human limits.”

Kim Sae-ron entered the entertainment industry as a child model for Enfant magazine in 2001 and made her acting debut in the 2009 film A Brand New Life. The Korean-French co-production, directed by Lee Chang-dong, was invited to the Cannes Film Festival, making Kim the youngest Korean actress to walk the Cannes red carpet.

She continued her career with notable performances in The Man from Nowhere, A Girl at My Door, and dramas such as Can You Hear My Heart?, Mom Is Acting Up, and The Queen’s Classroom. However, her career came to a halt in May 2022 due to a drunk driving accident. She withdrew from the drama Trolley and was heavily edited out of Netflix’s Bloodhounds, despite having completed most of her scenes.

Kim attempted a comeback through the stage play Dongchimi after two years of inactivity, but withdrew just a day after her return was announced, citing health reasons. Her final film, Guitar Man, is set for release posthumously.
