SEOUL, Sept. 1 (Yonhap) -- Yoo Hae-jin is set to take on another occult film following "Exhuma" (2024), film distributor Showbox said Tuesday.

 

Yoo was cast as the lead in the occult mystery film, tentatively titled "Modoob," with the filming  set to begin this month, the distributor said. 

 

"Modoob" is set on a remote island in the 1960s that has long been deserted, and tells the story of people whose lives are intricately entangled like an unresolved knot. The title is a dialectal word from South Jeolla Province meaning "knot."

 

Yoo will play Lee Do, the head of a fishing village. He is a character who protects the village and keeps watch over the remote island, serving as the central figure who drives the story.

 

Im Si-wan will play Lee Do's son, Sang-gun, acting alongside Yoo as a father and son. Sang-gun is a character who rushes headlong into anything he sets his mind to and heads to the remote island at Seon-ok's request.

 

Kim So-hyun will play Seon-ok, who travels to the remote island to treat an unexplained illness. It marks her first film appearance in 10 years since "The Last Princess" (2016).

 

Kim Moo-saeng, who became known for his roles in the series "The Glory" (2022) and "The World of the Married" (2020), will play Seon-ok's father, Gu-taek.

 

"Modoob" is the directorial debut of Park Jong-hyun, who worked as part of the directing teams on films including "A Normal Family" (2024) and "Broker" (2022). Kang Yoon-sung, director of "The Outlaws" (2017), is participating as a producer.

 

"I am happy to begin filming together in September as the weather starts to cool," Yoo said. "I hope we can complete the shoot safely, and I will do my best to make it a great film."
