SEOUL, March 12 (Yonhap) -- Seventeen members Vernon and The8 will form a new subunit this summer, according to a music industry source Thursday.

 

"Vernon and The8 are preparing a unit album with a goal of releasing it in June," the source said, adding that the two members are actively participating in the album’s production.

 

The upcoming release will mark Seventeen’s sixth unit project, following those by BSS, Jeonghan X Wonwoo, Hoshi X Woozi, S.Coups X Mingyu and DK X Seungkwan.

 

Vernon, a rapper of the group, has consistently participated in songwriting and composition since his debut. In 2024, he became a full member of the Korea Music Copyright Association and last year was selected as a voting member of the Recording Academy, which grants voting rights for the Grammy Awards.

 

The8, a Chinese member of Seventeen’s performance team, is known for his dance skills. He has also released solo albums in China, including the mini album "STARDUST."

 

Vernon previously worked with The8 musically by participating in the lyrics and composition of "Orbit," the title track of "STARDUST."

 

Seventeen is currently meeting fans worldwide through its new world tour, "NEW_." The group will hold encore concerts on April 4-5 at Incheon Asiad Main Stadium.
