SEOUL, Feb. 26 (Yonhap) -- The Gyeongju National Museum said Thursday it will open its Silla Millennium Library on weekends starting next month.
The library, located within the museum, specializes in books on the Silla Kingdom. It was established in 2022 by remodeling a former storage building into a reading space featuring materials on the history and culture of Silla and the Gyeongju region.
During the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit last year, first lady Kim Hye-kyung and Diana Fox Carney, spouse of the Canadian prime minister, met at the library for talks.
Previously open only on weekdays and the first and third Saturdays of each month, the library will now operate daily, allowing visitors to freely browse specialized collections related to Silla and Gyeongju, publications by the museum and major exhibition catalogues from Korea and abroad.
The library will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., in line with museum hours. It will be closed on Lunar New Year’s Day, Chuseok and the second Monday of March and November, which are regular closure days.
Museum Director Yoon Sang-deok said the expanded schedule will make it more convenient for visitors who were previously unable to come on weekdays, adding that the museum will continue striving to create a comfortable and visitor-friendly space.
