SEOUL, July 9 (Yonhap) -- Girl group Rescene has reached No. 1 on Melon's Top 100 chart for the first time since its debut, with its signature song "Love Attack" completing a remarkable chart resurgence, its agency said on Thursday.

The song climbed to No. 1 on Melon's Top 100 chart at 10 p.m. the previous day, overtaking I.O.I's "Suddenly." The achievement came one year and 11 months after the song's release in August 2024.

Rescene, a five-member girl group consisting of Minami, Liv, Zena, Woni and May, debuted in March 2024.

Featuring a refreshing sound and a catchy melody suited for summer, "Love Attack" first gained traction nine months after its release, rising to No. 65 on Melon's daily chart in May last year. The feat drew attention in the highly competitive K-pop market, where it is uncommon for acts from smaller agencies to break into the Top 100.

After gradually declining on the charts, the song began a second resurgence in March this year, sparked by leader Woni's YouTube channel.

In a video featuring the Japanese "gyaru" fashion style, Woni, who is from Geoje, joked, "If you go to Geoje dressed like that, the people of Geoje will really scold you," to which Japanese member Minami enthusiastically replied, "Geoje, yay!" The short exchange quickly became one of the biggest internet memes of the spring.

The renewed viral attention sent "Love Attack" rapidly back up the charts, eventually reaching the top spot. The milestone marks Rescene's first No. 1 chart hit, two years and four months after the group's debut.

Riding the momentum, Rescene released its new single "Pretty Girl," a remake of Kara's hit song of the same name, at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The remake preserves the original melody while adding a powerful distorted sound that gives the tune greater clarity. Modern synthesizer elements further enhance its polished feel.

As of 8 a.m. Thursday, "Pretty Girl" ranked No. 6 on Melon's Top 100 chart.
