SEOUL, Aug. 27 (Yonhap) -- Actor Lee Byung-hun will star in "K.O. CLUB," the upcoming film by Hwang Dong-hyuk, director of the global hit Netflix series "Squid Game," the film's production company said Thursday.

 

Firstman Studio unveiled the cast of "K.O. CLUB," saying filming is scheduled to begin in the first half of next year.

 

Set in the near future, "K.O. CLUB" depicts a conflict between a small group of elderly people who have wealth and power and a younger generation deprived of opportunities in a world where youth can be purchased with money.

 

The title is an abbreviation of "Killing Oldmen Club," referring to a "club for killing old men."

 

It marks Hwang's first feature film in 10 years since "The Fortress" in 2017. Hwang wrote the screenplay himself.

 

Lee will reunite with Hwang following their collaborations on "The Fortress" and the internationally successful series "Squid Game."

 

Park Hae-soo, who made a strong impression in the first season of "Squid Game," will also appear in Hwang's new film.

 

Oh Jung-se, one of South Korea's leading scene-stealing actors, as well as Cho Yeo-jeong and Kim So-jin, have joined the cast.
