SEOUL, Aug. 6 (Yonhap) -- The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korea Arts Management Service and the Arts Council Korea said Thursday they will distribute an additional 160,000 discount coupons worth 10,000 won (US$7.20) each for live performances starting Sept. 1.

 

The additional distribution aims to expand public access to performing arts and revitalize the performing arts market. The ministry previously distributed 240,000 performance discount coupons on May 22.

 

In conjunction with the new distribution, the ministry will recruit additional regional cultural and arts centers outside the Seoul metropolitan area to participate in an on-site discount program.

 

Eligible venues are cultural and arts centers outside Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi Province that host paid performances with admission fees exceeding 10,000 won.

 

Selected venues will provide a 10,000-won discount per ticket to eligible visitors attending performances between Sept. 1 and Nov. 30.

 

The discounts will be available to seniors aged 55 and older, people with disabilities, low-income households, farmers and fishermen, and groups of elementary, middle and high school students.

 

Participating venues will receive support of up to 10 million won each, with a total budget of 200 million won allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Cultural and arts centers wishing to participate must submit an application and related documents by email to coupon@gokams.or.kr. More information is available on the Korea Arts Management Service website.

 

Meanwhile, some of the regional performance discount coupons distributed in May remain available. They can be claimed through Naver Reservation, Time Ticket and Ticketlink through Aug. 20, with up to two coupons per person.

 

On-site discounts at six regional venues — including Gyeongju Arts Center, Gimhae Arts Center, Dangjin Arts Center, Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, Sejong Arts Center and Changnyeong Culture & Arts Center — will also continue through the end of this month.
