'Korean Movie Special Exhibition' to be held at New York Asian Film Festival

SEOUL, July 11 (Yonhap) -- The Korean Cultural Center NY announced on Saturday that it will be holding a "Korean Movie Special Exhibition" at the 2022 New York Asian Film Festival.


This special exhibition, co-hosted by the Cultural Center with the New York Asian Film Foundation and Film at Lincoln Center, is sponsored by the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE) and the Film Promotion Committee to commemorate the 140th anniversary of the treaty of Peace, Amity, Commerce and Navigation, United States–Korea Treaty of 1882.

Many Korean films, directors, and actors are invited to this year's film festival and are receiving awards.

Actor and director Jo Eun-ji's romance comedy "Perhaps Love" is competing for the "Uncaged Award for Best Feature Film" nominations for the best feature film, and the lead actor Ryu Seung-ryong was pre-selected as the winner of the "Best From The East Award," a new award that has been presented for the first time this year.

Director Choi Jae-hoon and Yoon Jong-seok were officially invited to the "Genre Masters" category, which targets innovative genre films that overturn conventions. Director Choi's 2020 work "The Swordsman" and the new action movie "The Killer: A Girl Who Deserves To Die," will be screened at the festival.

Actor Jang Hyuk, who starred in "The Swordsman" and "The Killer: A Girl Who Deserves To Die," won the "Daniel A. Craft Award for Excellence in Action Cinema" while actress Kim Hye-yoon, who starred in "The Girl on a Bulldozer" directed by Park Yi Woong, was awarded the "Screen International Rising Star Asia Award."

At this festival, director Kim Han-min's "Hansan: Rising Dragon" will be screened as a centerpiece film, and as the closing film, director Choi Dong-hoon's new sci-fi fantasy "Aleinoid" will be screened at this festival, said the Cultural Center.

Officially invited directors, Choi Dong-Hoon, Kwon Soo-Kyung, Choi Jae-Hoon, Yeom Ji-Ho, Yoon Jong-Suk, Park Sang-Min, Lee Il-Ha, and actors Jang Hyuk, Ryu Seung-Ryong, Kim Hye-Woon will be holding a "Q&A" session with the audience after the screening of the movie.

In addition, director Kwon Soo-kyung's new comedy film "Stellar: A Magical Ride" was officially invited to the "Fight Cancer Night" fundraising event held of this film festival and will be screened exclusively. The ticket sales of this movie will be donated to the American Cancer Society (ACS).

The New York Asian Film Festival is a representative Asian film festival in North America that started in 2002. Every year, it selects and introduces about 60 long and short films from Asian countries including Korea, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand.
