◇ BLACKPINK to headline Coachella music festival in U.S.
K-pop girl group BLACKPINK will headline the Coachella music festival, a major U.S. music and art festival scheduled for April, its organizer said.
In an official announcement released Tuesday (U.S. time), Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival unveiled its star-studded lineup for the annual event to be held at Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, featuring BLACKPINK, Bad Bunny and Frank Ocean as headliners.
BLACKPINK previously performed at Coachella in 2019 and will return as a headliner for this year's event to become the first K-pop artist to headline the festival, an international magnet for young music fans.
The festival is scheduled to run for two weekends: April 14-16 and 21-23.
◇ BLACKPINK, BTS nominated for 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards
Continuing on with the group’s international activities, K-pop girl group BLACKPINK has racked up four nominations for the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards, one of the American music industry's awards shows, and boy group BTS has landed two.
According to the full list of nominees for this year's event announced on the homepage of the annual music awards Wednesday (U.S. time), the quartet was recognized for Best Duo/Group of the Year, Best Fan Army and Best Music Video for its 2022 hit song "Pink Venom" and Favorite Use of a Sample for the same song.
BTS was nominated for Best Music Video for "Yet to Come," the lead single of its anthology album released in June and Best Fan Army.
It marks the sixth consecutive time for the K-pop septet to get a nod at the iHeartRadio Music Awards since 2018, when it first won a prize at the annual awards ceremony.
Jungkook, a BTS member, will compete against his team as "Left and Right," his collaboration single with U.S. singer-songwriter and producer Charlie Puth, landed a nomination for Best Music Video.
This year's awards ceremony will be held March 27 in Los Angeles.
◇ New Jeans successfully sells over 1.58 million copies within 6 moths of groups debut
Rookie K-pop girl group New Jeans’ debut album “New Jeans” and single “OMG “ successfully exceeded over 1.58 million copies sold, group’s agency ADOR, stated on Friday.
Based on the chart published by the Circle Chart ADOR addressed, K-pop girl group New Jeans, sold over 781 thousand copies of their debut album “New Jeans”, whereas “OMG” sold over 796 thousand copies.
Debut album “New Jeans” successfully sold over 310 thousand copies within a week of its release successfully re-writing the history of K-pop albums released by girl group’s debut albums. Continuing on with the success of the group’s debut album, New Jean’s single “OMG” successfully sold over 700 thousand copies.
"Among all the other K-pop artists that debuted since September 2016, NewJeans is the only artist to enter the “Top 10” of “Global 200,” said the agency ADOR.
The title track "OMG" has ranked 30th on "Global 200," debut song "Hype boy" ranked 59th, and "Attention" ranked 193rd.
