SEOUL, Oct. 23 (Yonhap) -- K-pop boy group ENHYPEN met with the director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO) to discuss the results of its global blood donation campaign.
According to Belift Lab on Friday, ENHYPEN met with WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Wednesday at HYBE's headquarters in Yongsan-gu, central Seoul. Officials from the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korean Red Cross Blood Services also attended the meeting.
The meeting was arranged in connection with ENHYPEN's ongoing efforts to encourage blood donation. The group shared its experience of encouraging fans to voluntarily participate and discussed ways to increase public awareness and participation.
"Blood is one of the most precious gifts anyone can give to another person, a gift of life," Tedros said. "I am proud of all the members of ENHYPEN for their dedication to working with WHO to encourage blood donation and save lives."
ENHYPEN said, "We started this campaign hoping that those who support us would join us, and we are grateful that ENGENEs (the group's fandom) around the world have participated. We hope to continue creating meaningful change together with our fans."
ENHYPEN's blood donation campaign began in January with the release of its seventh mini album, "THE SIN : VANISH." At the time, the group collaborated with the Korean Red Cross on a campaign inspired by the "vampire" concept, a key theme in the group's storyline. Blood donation buses were stationed at major gathering points for fans, and online events were also held for participants nationwide.
As a result, a total of 7,730 people participated in blood donations both online and offline from Jan. 16-25. Of them, 1,031 were first-time blood donors, an approximately 19-fold increase from the period before the campaign. The campaign was later expanded to Japan and Singapore, bringing the cumulative number of participants to about 10,000.
