SEOUL, Aug. 30 (Yonhap) -- Dubbed ‘Korean Monster’ Ryu Hyun-jin (34 Toronto Blue Jays) aims for 13-7 for the season through his upcoming match against Baltimore Orioles, the weakest team of the league.
He will lead the home game against MLB Baltimore at Rogers Centre in Toronto Ontario Canada at 8:07 a.m. September 1st.
His ERA is in tie for 2nd place for most victories in the AL marking 3.88 with 12-7 for the season. He may be able to take an advantageous position for 1st rank if he gains victory on the upcoming home game.
The 1st place for most victories in the AL is currently occupied by Gerrit Cole of the New York Yankees with 13 winnings.
The victory may also take him closer to the season’s most winnings as an individual, 14.
Ryu has scored 14 victories in 2013, 2014 and 2019.
He may also be able to get one step closer to 170 victories in total. Ryu has a record of 98 winnings in KBO League and 71 in MLB which is 169 victories in total.
As the soon-to-encounter team is the weakest of the league scoring their worst for the season, the prospects are not bad for Ryu.
The opponent has recorded 0.313 winning rate with 40 wins and 88 losses until the 29th. It has the lowest winning rate of the 30 MLB teams. They have managed to put a brake on their unending losses on the 26th marking 19 losses so far.
The lead pitcher, Keegan Akin, who has 7.26 ERA with 1 win and 8 losses, is not a big threat to the Ryu as well.
Although he pitched well with 1 loss throughout 7 innings against Los Angeles Angels on the 27th, the team has been beaten up in every previous game.
Ryu has good memories against Baltimore as well. The left-hander faced Baltimore 6 times in total and gained 2.95 ERA with 4 victories.
During the 3 games against Baltimore for the season, his ERA made a progress (2.89) with 3 victories.
The upcoming game is the left-hander’s best chance.
However, it may be too early to put down worries as Baltimore has marked 0.241 BA (Batting Average) ranking 8th place out of 15 AL baseball teams which is a fairly decent score.
Especially they are on 5th rank of AL with 0.260 against fork-handers.
Baltimore includes a number of powerful batters such as Ryan Mountcastle (24 hits), Cedric Mullins (23 hits), Trey Mancini (over 20 hits homerun for the season)
Above all, it is up to Ryu whether he may be able show a good performance.
The left-hander threw his worst balls against Chicago White Sox on the 27th allowing 7 hits including 3 home runs during 3⅔ innings and being charged with 7 points.
Ryu has lost 7 points twice in August. Now is the time for a fruitful performance.
