SEOUL, Nov. 22 (Yonhap) -- “To be honest, we thought that this would be our last chance for a come-back,” said Jiyeon of T-ARA.
Girl-group T-ARA has returned in 4 years with a new album “Re:T-ARA.”
It has been 13 years since their debut in 2009. The band released a number of hit songs such as “Bo Peep Bo Peep,” “Go Crazy Because Of You,” “Roly-Poly” and “Lovey-Dovey.”
They overcame the hardships for an idol group, especially a girl-group that has been in the music scene for quite long years and has managed to reunite with their fans with a new production. To produce the album, they teamed up with Dingo, a mobile channel and even invested personal money as well.
“We promised our fans that we will come back before the first snow falls. I feel so happy to have kept that promise. I hope this come-back will become a good memory,” said member Hyomin.
When asked about who first suggested the come-back, Qri answered, “As all of the members equally loved T-ARA, we have been consistently talking about a come-back. There were difficulties but we did not give up. I am happy to be able to return.”
The long-running group has been continuing their activities in the entertainment scene for about 2 times longer than an idol group’s normal term, 7 years. It is natural that the longer a band survives, the more its members engage in individual activities than act as a group.
Jiyeon has led a KBS series “Imitation” and Eunjung appeared in KBS daily drama “Be My Dream Family.” Member Hyomin and Qri have been working as MCs and guests for variety shows.
The band also shared why they decided to gather again as T-ARA.
“We devoted our youth to T-ARA and this team has become a part of our lives. We know how valuable the name ‘T-ARA’ is so we tried everything to protect it. We think our fans would feel the same as well,” said Hyomin.
“We each went through busy days shooting dramas, films and variety shows, but there were moments where we really missed each other,” said Eunjung.
The album includes double title songs “ALL KILL,” a hip-hop dance song and “TIKI TAKA,” which is impressive with its strong bass sound and addictive melody.
Composers Cho Yeong-suand Ahn Young-min, who made the band’s debut song “Lie,” produced “ALL KILL” that strongly reminds of their Western-style hit song “DAY BY DAY.”
“We included an addictive hook for this time as well. While ‘TIKI TAKA’ shows a fancy, new side of T-ARA and has a dreamy atmosphere, ‘ALL KILL’ shows the old T-ARA but an upgraded, matured version,” explained Eunjung.
Especially, LACHICA, a professional dance crew who received immense love through Mnet dance survival program “Street Woman Fighter,” took part in producing “TIKI TAKA”’s choreography
“The production process was a chaos as we had to be both an artist and staff in the same time. But, this activity may become the most memorable moment of my life because we felt so proud every time we completed a schedule,” said Qri.
“We were loved from the Korean and foreign fans with good songs and various activities. We were happy to stand on stages. There were hard moments but thanks to our fans and our members, I was able to get over them. When I look back, there only memories so thankful and times of efforts,” said Eunjung.
