SEOUL, May 16 (Yonhap) — The Vienna Symphony Orchestra, one of the world’s premier classical ensembles, is set to present a concert themed around K-pop next year.
SM Entertainment announced Friday that the orchestra will hold the “Vienna Symphony Orchestra X K-pop” concert on Feb. 16, 2025, at the prestigious Konzerthaus in Vienna, Austria. The event will be organized in collaboration with SM Classics, the classical and jazz label under SM Entertainment.
The concert will feature orchestral and jazz arrangements of iconic K-pop songs from SM Entertainment’s catalog, offering a fresh interpretation of the genre. Earlier this year, SM Classics celebrated SM’s 30th anniversary with a K-pop orchestra concert in partnership with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.
Founded in 1900, the Vienna Symphony will introduce European classical music audiences to a reimagined take on K-pop. The concert will be part of the orchestra’s official 2025/26 season program as a special project.
“This marks an unprecedented attempt to bring K-pop to the European classical stage in a standalone concert format,” said SM Entertainment. “It will serve as an opportunity to expand the emotional impact of K-pop to global audiences by transcending traditional genre boundaries.”
