SEOUL, Feb. 8(Yonhap) -- "The music I perform as a band DAY6 is my favorite music. This solo album is made with my unique color added to it.”
DAY6 member Won-pil (real name Kim Won-pil), who has drawn attention with his soft voice and outstanding musical talent, took his first step as a solo artist in 6 years and 5 months since his debut. It is through "Pilmography," which contains his own music story.
Won-pil introduced in a video unveiled ahead of the release of his full album on Feb. 7, “This work will be a ‘pilmography’ in my music life,” adding, “I took a lot of effort to the album so please listen to it a lot.”
The singer, who has presented a variety of musical aspects, such as writing lyrics, composing, and playing the piano, also showed his talent in his first album.
He participated in writing lyrics of all 10 songs in the album, including the title song “Voiceless,” “Let me Erase(translated),” “A Writer in a Love Story,” and “Walk with Me,” and he filled the album with his own voice.
Won-pil said, "When I started working on the album, I only wanted to fill it with my voice. I also had concerns about the vocals, but I kept wondering about the music that best suits me while working.”
The title song "Voiceless" is a ballad song with genres of waltz and blues. The singer pathetically portrayed the moment of an unwanted breakup by saying, "This is a confession that I want you to be happier."
When asked how Park Jin-young, the representative producer of his agency JYP Entertainment, evaluated the album, Won-pil smiled brightly, saying, "After Park listened the song, he said that ‘Voiceless’ was the best ballad song released by JYP.”
Won-pil said, "We can rely on each other when we work as a group or unit, but it’s sad that it doesn’t apply for the solo artists," adding, "I was encouraged when the members cheered me up, saying, ‘Just relax and have fun without burden’ and ‘You will do a great job.’”
When asked whether the team will take a rest for a while due to the members’ military service, “I think a good painting needs to have enough margin rather than leaving no space,” adding, “I believe it’s a margin, not a blank.”
