SEOUL, May 20 (Yonhap) -- Singer-songwriter BIBI will release her new single "BUMPA" at 6 p.m. Wednesday, her agency Feel Ghood Music said.
"BUMPA" marks her first new song in a year since her second full-length album released last year. The track directly captures the feeling of freedom, dancing and enjoyment through a blend of global pop, Latin genres and Caribbean rhythms, combined with energetic sounds and the vibrancy of summer.
BIBI said the song was written a long time ago.
"It was originally a complete Afro-style sound, but I rearranged it into a band version for the world tour, and the result turned out so well that I decided to release it," she said.
She added, "When I wrote the lyrics, I tried to empty my mind. Rather than delivering a particular meaning, I focused on the joy itself."
The title "BUMPA" is Jamaican slang for "hips" or "buttocks." The song also features phrases in Spanish, including "baila para mi" ("dance for me"), adding an exotic charm through its use of multiple languages.
BIBI said she discovered the word "BUMPA" while searching for a term that matched the song's catchy hook.
She took charge of the song's lyrics, composition and production, as well as the concept, visuals and video direction.
The music video for "BUMPA," filmed in Koh Samui, Thailand, captures the refreshing mood of summer and the freedom of youth.
BIBI debuted in 2019 with the single "Binu" and has established herself as a singer-songwriter by writing and composing her own music. In 2024, her song "Bamyanggang," written and composed by Kiha & The Faces frontman Kiha Chang, became a major hit and topped music charts.
