SEOUL December 1 (Yonhap) -- South Korean pianist Lim Yunchan’s first album released after his successful result in Van Cliburn international piano competition 2022 sold over 10 thousand copies on the day of its release.

According to the Universal music on Thursday, collaborative live album of Lim Yunchan and Gwangju Symphony Orchestra “Beethoven, Isang Yun, Barber” successfully recorded platinum by selling 10 thousand copies on the day of its release.

South Korean classical music industry rewards albums that sell over five thousand copies with the title of Gold ones that sell over 10 thousand copies Platinum, 20thousand copies Multi Platinum, and 100 thousand copies Diamond.

Lim Yunchan’s album “Beethoven, Ilsang Yun, Barber” which started its pre order on November 14, was ranked first on Best Sellers among music cds, within online bookstore Yes24 and second on Best Seller categories among music cds in Aladin.

The album includes Lim Yunchan’s performance of Beethoven’s “Piano Concerto NO.5” which he performed with Gwangju Symphony Orchestra at Tongyeong International Music Hall,Barber’s “adagio for strings, op. 11 ,” and Isang Yun’s “Exemplum in memoriam kwangju” by Gwanju Symphony Orchestra.Throughout the press conference held for the release of his album on November 28, pianist Lim Yunchan addressed that “‘Piano Concerto No.5’ is a track which withholds Beethoven’s understanding of Utopia and his own idea of Universe therefore I recorded the track.” 

Pianist Lim Yunchan won the grand prize from the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition 2022 held in Fortworth United States with the title of youngest pianist to win the competition on June of 2022. Video recording of his final performance received over 1 million views leading the “Lim Yunchan Syndrome” among classic fans from all over the world.
