SEOUL, Aug. 7 (Yonhap) -- The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Craft & Design Foundation announced on the 7th that the '2024 Hanbok Shop,' a hanbok expo, will be held from the 9th to the 12th at the Art Hall of Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul.
Marking its 7th year, the '2024 Hanbok Shop' is the only hanbok expo in Korea that encompasses hanbok exhibitions, sales, and traditional lifestyle experiences.
The special exhibition 'Hidden Aspects: The New Return of Hanbok' will showcase clothing from Goguryeo, Unified Silla, Goryeo, and Joseon periods. A fashion show titled 'Trajectory of Time: Hanbok,' focusing on the evolution of hanbok, will also be held, with Jinhee Lee, a professor at the Korea National University of Arts, serving as the artistic director.
The expo will introduce results from the Hanbok Culture Promotion Project led by the Ministry and the Foundation. This includes 30 winning pieces from this year's 'Hanbok Design Project Contest' and over 100 hanbok uniforms developed last year for transport and leisure services.
Additionally, 'Hanbok Marumbang' will provide on-site training for hanbok professionals and aspiring designers. The National Heritage Promotion Agency will present traditional lifestyle culture content through craft products that blend traditional and modern aesthetics.
In the experience hall, visitors can create their own 'sijeonji' (flower letter paper used during the Joseon Dynasty) with ten types of traditional Andong hanji, or make a hemp broom by weaving hemp and ramie fibers.
In the sales hall, 112 companies will offer traditional and casual hanbok, accessories, and hanbok for pets at discounts ranging from 30% to up to 80% off the regular prices.
First Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yong Ho-seong, who will attend the opening ceremony on the 9th, stated, "We have prepared various programs to make this a true hanbok festival," expressing hope that the event will promote the daily wear of hanbok. Hanbok ambassador Song So-hee will also visit the venue on the same day to tour the site with visitors.
Admission is free for those wearing hanbok or who pre-register. Pre-registration is available until the 8th through the '2024 Hanbok Shop Pre-Registration System' (https://hanbokexpo2024.govent.kr/). More information can be found on the official website (www.kcdf.or.kr/hanbokexpo).
