SEOUL, Dec. 29 (Yonhap) -- Drama series "Pachinko," which depicts the eventful life and immigrant story of Korean-Japanese family has topped the "Best TV of 2022" list by a famous movie critic from leading daily newspaper.
Sun-Times, one of the top two leading daily newspapers in Chicago, introduced top 10 list of 'Richard Roeper's best Tv of 2022' and chose Apple TV+'s "Pachinko," which is based on a novel of the same name by Korean-AMerican author Lee Min-jin, as No.1.
Sun-Times introduced it as a work that impressively depicted the stories of multi-generational Korean family.
Roeper commented that the opening of the drama was "one of the greatest opening credits sequences in television history."
The opening features multi-generational casts dancing in a pachinko arcade to the sounds of American rock band Grass Roots' old pop "Let's Live For Today."
Roeper praised the work, saying, "We get one of the best TV series in recent years," adding, " a masterfully spun, gorgeously photographed, beautifully acted and deeply memorable work following the journey of one Korean family across some 75 years."
He continued, ""Pachinko" is a triumphant work with gleaming performances by the great Youn Yuh-Jung (Oscar winner for "Minari"), Lee Minho, Minha Kim, Soji Arai and Jin Ha," adding, "Very specific to one family and yet universally relatable, 'Pachinko' is a breathtakingly original treasure."

Movie critic and columnist Roeper has been gaining global popularity by hosting movie review TV program "At The Movies" with Roger Ebert (1942-2013), the "Big Star" in the world of movie review, from 2000 to 2008.
Ebert, who was a reporter at Chicago Sun-TImes, hosted "At The Movies" for some 20 years with Chicago tribune reporter Gene Siskel, but put Roeper at Siskel's seat when Siskel passed away in 1999 due to brain tumor.
Roeper is still actively working across newspaer and TV programs.
Meanwhile, HBO comedy drama series "Somebody, Somewhere" placed No.2, Hulu's "The Bear" No.3, and Paramount+'s "Tulsa King" No.4.
