SEOUL, April 15 (Yonhap) -- The tvN drama 'Queen of Tears', fueled by the heartfelt melodramatic performances of actors Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won, has set a new record for its own highest viewership ratings.
According to Nielsen Korea on the 15th, the 12th episode of 'Queen of Tears' broadcast at 9:20 PM the previous day recorded a viewership rating of 20.7%. This surpassed the previous highest record of 20.5% set by Kim Eun-sook's 'Goblin' in 2016 and ranks as the second-highest rating among all tvN dramas, following 'Crash Landing on You' (21.6%) from 2020.
In the episode aired the previous day, viewers witnessed the touching portrayal of Hong Hae-in (played by Kim Ji-won), whose memories are becoming blurry due to a rare disease, and her husband Baek Hyeon-woo (played by Kim Soo-hyun) who steadfastly supports her amidst her confusion.
The couple spends intimate moments like any ordinary newlywed couple, and Baek Hyeon-woo prepares a second proposal before it's too late. However, due to her jumbled and confused memories, Hong Hae-in fails to recognize even her beloved husband and rejects his proposal.
Meanwhile, Queen's Group Chairman Hong Man-dae (played by Kim Kap-soo), who collapsed due to being drugged by Mo Seul-hee (played by Lee Mi-sook), regains consciousness. Mo Seul-hee, anticipating the exposure of embezzled funds by Yun Eun-sung (played by Park Sung-hoon), takes her own life for the sake of her children before her wrongdoing is discovered.
The 12th episode concludes with Baek Hyeon-woo discovering a clue suggesting that Chairman Hong Man-dae's embezzled funds are hidden within Queen's Town, leading to a scene where he and his family enter the hidden secret space.
With only 4 episodes left until the finale, interest is mounting on the direction of Chairman Hong Man-dae's legacy and the future of the struggling Baek Hae-in and Hong Hae-in couple amidst the rare disease crisis.
