SEOUL, April 7 (Yonhap) — A retrospective showcasing masterpieces by actor-director Buster Keaton, widely regarded as a pioneer of stunt action and a master of comedy, will open on April 22, distributor M&M International said Tuesday.

The retrospective will be held at arthouse cinemas and other venues, the distributor said.

Keaton, a leading figure of the silent film era, is known for his deadpan expression, daring real-life stunts and meticulous direction that makes inventive use of space to deliver both humor and tension.

His filmmaking style is known to have influenced Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan, who has cited Keaton as one of the filmmakers he respects most.

The retrospective has been organized to mark the 100th anniversary of Keaton’s film "The General" (1926).

The program will feature seven of his major works from the 1920s, including "Three Ages" (1923), "Our Hospitality" (1923), "Sherlock Jr." (1924), "The Navigator" (1924), "Seven Chances" (1925), "The General" and "College" (1927).

The films will be screened in 5K digital restorations by Blackhawk Films, with newly composed and arranged orchestral scores added in the 2020s.
