SEOUL, Apr. 17 (Yonhap) -- American neo-noir action thriller film “John Wick: Chapter 4,” starring the legendary Hollywood star Keanu Reeves, effortlessly topped the local weekend box office.

Per Korea Film Council, this action-packed flick greeted its opening weekend crowd and raked in 498,000 admissions (48.1% of sales share) over three days from April 14.

“John Wick 4” has gathered more than 726,000 moviegoers so far and has been staying atop the chart for four days since its release last Wednesday (April 12).

Meanwhile, Makoto Shinkai’s animated blockbuster “Suzume” (22.8%), which gave its way to Keanu Reeves’ brand-new film, slid down to second place. This anime, however, already wrote legend by surpassing 4,482,000 cumulative admissions as of Friday, becoming the most-watched Japanese film in South Korea. The film had 214,000 moviegoers added to this big number over the weekend, scoring a total of 4.69 million admissions.

Director Jang Hang-joon’s basketball film “Rebound” (10.9%) came in third, also pushed back one notch from last week. The sports film added 119,000 moviegoers to its cumulative audience over three days and accumulated a total of 485,000 admissions.

The absurdly humorous comedy film “Killing Romance” (5.6%), starring Lee Ha-nee and Lee Sun-kyun, touched down in fourth place, attracting 62,000 audiences over three days.
