Original works of 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo' sells over 5 thousand copies

SEOUL, July 19 (Yonhap) -- South Korean hit drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” airing every Wednesday and Thursday provided publishing industry with “Extraordinary Attorney Woo syndrome” which increased the sales of the drama’s original works by spreading its popularity like a wild fire through word of mouth.

According to the publishing industry, the drama version of the “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” is expected to air total of 16 episodes whereas the original essay version of the show only extends up to three books. Since the TV series “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” is an original creation, based on an actual case write ups files, it is hard to pinpoint an original work.

Attorney Cho Woo-sung’s essay “One joyful memory can overpower thousand sad memories” published in June by the company Samnparkers showed the highest sales volume due to the aligning period of publication and the success of the drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo.”

According to the data collected from three of the major South Korean online bookstores, Kyboboook, YES24, and Aladin over 5,500 copies were sold within 3 weeks.

Whereas, in the book, lawyer Jo, demonstrates his wit in order to dodge the fatal obstacle, a memorandum, which could have lead the trial to not end in their favor, and lead the three brothers to take the fair share of the compensation price.


Moreover, some parts of the book will be reflected through the episodes premiering next months, including prisoners who plans for another crime in order to get compensated for the crimes they have covered up for, and locating a problem at a restaurant where they visited during a workshop which led to giving legal advice to the owner of the restaurant and more will air throughout upcoming episodes.

South Korean public defender Shin Min-yeong ‘s case file “Why do I defend them” released in 2016 and “Master of the court” by South Korean lawyer Shin Ju-yeong which released in 2020, both increased in sales after some of the episodes of “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” were based off from their cases.

“Extraordinary Attorney Woo” is a drama series about an autistic lawyer as a junior lawyer at a law firm who solves provided cases on her own unique ways. Due to its fame the show was offered a remake from the United States.
