SEOUL, May 4 (Yonhap) -- Paju city, Gyeonggi Province, announced on the 4th that it will gradually resume the "Paju Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) Peace Tour," which has been paused for two years due to COVID-19, from the 4th.
Firstly, the tours of the Third Tunnel of Aggression and Dora Observatory (Paju) will be will resumed first.
These two tourist attractions are open from Tuesday to Sunday and will be open 6 times on weekdays and 12 times on weekends, with 40 people per time.
Paju city has also completed prior consultations with the military base for the operation of the tours in the Demilitarized Zone.
It is opening in four months since the operation was suspended in December last year due to the spread of African swine fever virus and COVID-19.
The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization has also resumed the tour of the Civilian Control Zone, Ecological Trail along the Imjingang River from the 1st.
Used as a military patrol route in the past, the Ecological Trail along the Imjingang River is a 9km trail that runs along Imjingak to Yulgok Wetland Park.
Opened to the public in 2016, it has been visited by more than 10,000 visitors annually and has to be registered before-hand to enter.
"Although COVID-19 didn't completely end, I am happy that DMZ Peace tour will be able to be resumed in May, which is a good time to enjoy travelling," said the head of the tourism department in Paju city, Lee Myeong-hee.
