SEOUL, July 17 (Yonhap) -- The PLZ Festival Secretariat announced on Wednesday that the "PLZ (Peace & Life Zone) Festival," a music festival held in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), will be held from July 24 till October 29.

The PLZ Festival is a regional cultural festival first held in 2018 to convey the message that the DMZ is a land of life and peace. It is hosted by five counties bordering the Gangwon province (Goseong, Inje, Yanggu, Hwacheon, and Cheorwon).

This year's festival will start with the opening performance at Jejin Station in Goseong on July 24 and will be held in Goseong, Inje, Yanggu, Hwacheon, and Cheorwon until October 29.

The opening performance will feature pianist and artistic director of the festival, Lim Mi-jung, clarinetist Kim Han, and Seoul Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra.

At the "2022 Queen Elisabeth Winners Concert" held at the former site of Cheorwon Jeil Methodist Church on September 17, Choi Ha-young, the first Korean to win the cello category, will meet the audience.

In addition, about 20 performances will be held, including the outdoor opera "Tosca" held at the Sarangnamoo in Hwacheon and a performance by contemporary dancer Jeong Jae-woo at Myeongpa Beach in Goseong.

At the International Peace Music Camp held online, one can also meet musicians' master classes and special lectures by Antoine Marguier, music director of the Orchestra Des Nations in Switzerland.

"I hope that it will serve as an opportunity to deliver a message of reconciliation through music to the world in a situation when peace is crucial like the Ukraine crisis," artistic director Lim Mi-jung said.
