SEOUL, Aug. 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korean actor Lee Byung-hun has been selected as a recipient of a Special Tribute Award at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), the festival announced Tuesday.
TIFF revealed this year’s four honorees for the prestigious TIFF Tribute Awards on its official website, recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of cinema. Joining Lee on the list are acclaimed directors Guillermo del Toro and HIKARI, as well as Oscar-winning actress Jodie Foster.
"The 2024 honorees have all left a profound mark on the film industry," the festival stated, adding, "We are thrilled to honor Lee Byung-hun for his commanding talent, del Toro for his visionary imagination, HIKARI for her heartfelt storytelling, and Foster for her unparalleled career."
On Lee, the festival remarked: "He is a global star who has achieved remarkable success across both Korean and Hollywood film and television."
The 50th Toronto International Film Festival is set to run from September 4 to 14 in Toronto, Canada, with the TIFF Tribute Awards ceremony scheduled for September 7.
In addition to the award, Lee will also be featured at the festival as the lead actor in "No Other Choice," the latest film from director Park Chan-wook. The film has been invited to the North American Gala Premiere section, further cementing Lee’s global presence and recognition.
