SEOUL, March 25 (Yonhap) -- "Both marriage and divorce are choices made for one's happiness. The Divorce Insurance is not about divorce itself, but about the pursuit of happiness." (Lee Dong-wook)

At an online press conference on the 24th, actor Lee Dong-wook, the lead of tvN’s new Monday-Tuesday drama The Divorce Insurance, shared his thoughts on redefining the often negatively perceived concept of divorce.

The drama follows No Gi-jun (Lee Dong-wook), a member of an innovative product development team at an insurance company, along with contract underwriter Kang Han-deul (Lee Joo-bin), risk surveyor Ahn Jeon-man (Lee Kwang-soo), and financial mathematician Jeon Na-rae (Lee Da-hee). Their team creates a groundbreaking insurance policy—one that covers divorce. Recognizing that divorce, like car accidents, can strike unexpectedly and leave lasting damage, they design a product to provide financial protection in such situations.

Blending the topic of divorce with romantic comedy, the drama offers plenty of humor.

Lee Dong-wook, returning to the rom-com genre after seven or eight years, shared, "It was fun getting back into the rhythm of fast-paced, witty dialogue."

Lee Kwang-soo added, "Dong-wook and I improvised a series of ad-libs. It feels like a 'mini-drama within the drama,' so keep an eye out for it."

Most of the main characters in The Divorce Insurance have experienced divorce. No Gi-jun has been married and divorced three times, making him a seasoned "expert" on the subject, while Kang Han-deul is a "newcomer" who recently went through a divorce. Jeon Na-rae, who was No Gi-jun’s third ex-wife, also has firsthand experience.

Lee Da-hee commented, "There was no discomfort or awkwardness with any of the cast members, which I think helped create our natural on-screen chemistry."

The series marks the drama directorial debut of Lee Won-seok, known for films like How to Use Guys with Secret Tips and Killing Romance.

"I had always declined drama offers because, compared to making one film, directing six episodes in the same time frame seemed daunting," Lee Won-seok admitted. "But when writer Lee Tae-yoon gave me the script, I started reading it and, before I knew it, I had agreed to do it. The unique world-building in the drama really drew me in."

He added, "This is the first time I’ve ever felt excited while editing. I believe viewers will feel good watching this drama, too."
