SEOUL, July 7 (Yonhap) -- MBC's new weekday drama "Family Register," which follows the growth of two families, got off to a solid start with viewership in the 4 percent range.
According to Nielsen Korea on Tuesday, the first episode of "Family Register," which aired the previous day, recorded a nationwide rating of 4.3 percent.
The premiere introduced the stories of two families, each hiding emotional scars.
Na Jini (Park Se-young) appears to have an enviable life as the daughter of Na Seri (Han Go-eun) and Cha Min-ki (Jeon No-min), earning the label of someone born with a silver spoon.
Behind the seemingly privileged life, however, tensions run high between Jini and her mother, who pressures her into marriage, saying, "Just as I gave birth to you without your consent, I'll marry you off without it."
Jini is also forced to confront past trauma when she unexpectedly encounters Do Do-hee (Park Sol-a), the school bully who tormented her during her school years.
Meanwhile, Noh Young-joo (Lim Ji-eun), who is raising her two sons, Cha Seung-hyun (Seo Do-young) and Cha Seung-woo (Jeon Seung-bin), appears to enjoy a warm and loving family life.
However, a framed message reading, "Love your enemy," displayed in her room, along with a hidden photograph of Cha Min-ki concealed behind it, hints at an untold connection between the two families.
"Family Register" has drawn attention as Park's first drama in four years since marrying actor Kwak Jung-wook and giving birth to their daughter.
