SEOUL, August 31 (Yonhap) -- Rookie K-pop girl group IVE which debuted in December of 2021 is creating a phenomenon with their latest single “After Like” after selling nearly 1 million copies of their new single.
According to the music industry on Wednesday, over 924 thousand copies were sold within the first week of the release of IVE’s latest single “After Like.”
Considering the current trend, where the fandom continue to grow and albums steadily sell out due to shift of consumerism within music industry, it is certain that IVE’s “After Like” will exceed over 1 million copies sold.
Within 9 months since their debut in December of 2021 IVE is expected to achieved the title of million sellers. Among numerous fourth generation girl groups, IVE has successfully achieved noticeable success.
Comparing the sales made within the first week of its release, IVE’s debut album “ELEVEN” sold over 152 thousand copies, second single “Love Dive” sold over 338 thousand copies whereas their third single “After Like” sold over 924 thousand copies showcasing drastic increase in sales.
Number of album sold within the first week of its release is used to measure the size of artist’s fandom. Hence it is safe to assume that IVE has managed to create a sold global fandom within couple months since their debut.
As of the evening of August 30, “After Like” has topped South Korea’s greatest music streaming service Melon’s “TOP 100” chart. IVE has managed to succeed in both traditional music market and music streaming service market.
“After Like” contains a cheerful meaning that if you are brave enough to love someone, don’t hesitate and dive straight in which stands in a continuum to their previous single “Love Dive.” Lyrics of the track incorporate confidence, lovely and elegant attitude towards love.
Latest track “After Like” which is based on kick rhythm crosses over numerous genres such as pop, house, EDM and more.
Unlike their previous releases which sampled Grammy Awards winner of 1980 Gloria Gaynor’s “I will Survive,” IVE’s latest track showcases simplicity but at the same time it showcases extravagance.
Distinguishing themselves from other K-pop girl groups where they release refreshing summery songs suitable for the season, IVE made a comeback with a track which incorporates retro melodic line from 1970s to 1980s creating the atmosphere of dedicatory letter to the summer which is ending.
Moreover, IVE demonstrated the Y2K feel throughout their music video by filming with the props designed to look like it’s from 1990s to 2000s while wearing suitable clothes from the era.
