SEOUL, Jan. 12 (Yonhap) – As the Netflix-aired series “The Glory,” starring Song Hye-kyo and Lee Do-hyun, attracts international fans with its story testifying how revenge is a dish best served ice-cold, the bullying past of Thai celebrities has resurfaced.
There has been an eye-catching wave in Thai social media demanding several Thai celebrities who were accused of their past as school bullies and committing school violence to make an apology, along with the hashtag “Thai_The_Glory.”
A Thai singer and actor Putthipong Assaratanakul, otherwise known as Billkin, 23, also apologized on his Facebook account for a past comment he had left on one of his friend’s social media feeds, according to local news platforms.
“I admit that what I wrote in that comment is not true, and I have reached out to that friend to apologize,” the singer said in his Facebook post. He also added, “I have realized that what I write can have both intended and unintended repercussions on others.”
The young star has made himself known as an actor by starring in several Thai dramas including “My Ambulance, “I told Sunset About You,” and “I Promised You the Moon,” and also as a singer.
Pawat Chittsawangdee, also known as Ohm Pawat who made himself known by acting in a 2021 BL drama “Bad Buddy,” also twitted his apology to a friend with autism he was accused of school bullying.
Almost a week after the allegations surfaced, Ohm took to social media and posted an apology, saying, “I played such foolish pranks as a naughty young boy, and my parents and I had apologized to the victims and their parents for my wrongdoings.”
He also added that he would “never forgive [himself]” for what he had done as a bully, and also that he is “truly sorry from the bottom of [his] heart to every single person who was affected by those childish actions.”
“The Glory,” a mega-hit Netflix series based on the script of a renowned South Korean writer Kim Eun-suk, depicts the blood-soaking revenge drama of a school violence victim Moon Dong-eun, played by veteran actress Song Hye-kyo.
The series made an international hit, ranking No.1 among Netflix’s non-English TV series in the week of Jan. 2 to 8, and also has been topping the Thai Netflix chart.
