'Parasyte: The Grey' Tops Netflix Non-English Series Chart for 2nd Consecutive Week

SEOUL, April 17 (Yonhap) -- Director Yeon Sang-ho's 'Parasyte: The Grey' has risen to become the most-watched non-English series globally for the second consecutive week on Netflix.

 

According to Netflix on the 17th, 'Parasyte: The Grey' recorded 9.8 million views (Views divided by playback time) from the 8th to the 14th of this month, securing the top spot in the non-English TV series category following the previous week.

 

The series ranked within the top 10 in a total of 84 countries and claimed the number one spot in 33 countries, including South Korea, Mexico, Chile, Taiwan, Thailand, and Morocco.

 

Directed by Yeon, known for films like 'Train to Busan' and thriller series 'Hell,' 'Parasyte: The Grey' is a spin-off based on the world of hit Japanese manga 'Parasyte,' which won the Seiun Award in Japan in 1996 in the comic category.

 

The story delves into mysterious parasitic creatures that take over human bodies. Actress Jeon So-nee portrayed Jung Soo-in, a human partly taken over by a parasite, while actor Koo Kyo-hwan played Seo Kang-woo, a violent gang member searching for his missing family.

 

Meanwhile, the romantic comedy drama 'Queen of Tears,' starring Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won, recorded 4.4 million views, securing the third position. This series has maintained its presence within the top 10 for six consecutive weeks.
