SEOUL, May 11 (Yonhap) -- "The Devil Wears Prada 2" topped the South Korean weekend box office for the first time since its release, data showed Monday.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated box office data system, the film drew about 195,000 moviegoers from Friday to Sunday, accounting for 28.1 percent of total ticket sales revenue.
Released on April 29, "The Devil Wears Prada 2" follows Andy, played by Anne Hathaway, and editor-in-chief Miranda, portrayed by Meryl Streep, as they navigate changes in the media industry while searching for their place in New York's fashion magazine world.
The film is a sequel released 20 years after the globally popular 2006 movie "The Devil Wears Prada." Its cumulative audience total has reached about 1.22 million.
Animated feature "Super Mario Galaxy," based on the world of the "Super Mario" game franchise, ranked second with about 184,000 viewers and a 24.7 percent share of ticket sales revenue.
Horror film "Salmokji," starring actress Kim Hye-yoon, came in third with about 147,000 viewers and a 21.2 percent revenue share.
Released April 8, "Salmokji" surpassed 3.02 million cumulative admissions as of Sunday, becoming the second most-watched Korean horror film of all time after "A Tale of Two Sisters" (2003), which attracted 3.14 million viewers.
Sci-fi blockbuster "Project Hail Mary" ranked fourth with about 58,000 viewers, followed by "Jjanggu," starring and directed by actor Jung Woo, with around 31,000 viewers.
As of 9 a.m. Monday, the biographical film "Michael," based on the life of Michael Jackson and set for release Tuesday, ranked first in advance reservation rate at 41.3 percent, with about 64,000 reservations.
Director Yeon Sang-ho's upcoming film "Collective," scheduled for release May 21, ranked second in reservation rate at 12 percent with about 18,000 reservations, followed by "The Devil Wears Prada 2" at 8.2 percent with about 12,000 reservations.
