SEOUL, August 12 (Yonhap) --Asia’s largest music and movie festival, the 18th Jecheon International Music & Film Festival began its six day journey on Thursday.
The opening ceremony held at Uirimji Stage in Jecheon was hosted by actors Lee Chung-ju and Jin Ji-hee on that evening while it was raining.
Jecheon Mayor Kim Chang-gyu, chairman of the festival's organizing committee, said, “The Jecheon International Music & Film Festival is an outcome of film enthusiasts and Jecheon citizens’s sincerity,” adding, “Release your tiredness from prolonged COVID-19 and enjoy with all your heart,” as he announced the opening of the film festival.
Justin Hurwitz, music director for the movies “Whiplash” and “La La Land,” won the “2022 Jecheon Film Music Award” on Thursday.
Music director Bang Jun-seok, who passed away from a chronic disease in last March, was given certificate of merit.
At the opening ceremony, celebratory performances such as screening of a film festival trailer by director Kim Byung-seo and opening song “Another Day of Sun” of “La La Land” was staged.
The opening film “Sonata,” which revolves around a 14-year-old boy who overcame his hearing impairment through music, was screened in the presence of director Bartos Blaschke and actor Mikhau Sikorsky.
Musician Gzegoz Flonka, the real model for this movie, played “Moonlight Sonata” before the screening of the movie, impressing audiences.
Stars such as Moon Seong-geun, Kwon Hae-hyo, Bang Eun-jin, Moon Geun-young, Yoo Ji-tae, Jung So-min, Lee Cheong-ah, and Park Min-ah appeared on the red carpet event before the opening ceremony.
Local politicians such as Chungbuk Governor Kim Young-hwan and lawmakers Lee Jong-bae and Uhm Tae-young also watched the opening ceremony.
This year’s film festival, which will be featured in Uirimji, Jecheon airfield, and movie theaters in downtown until Aug. 16, will feature the highest number of films, 139 films, from 39 countries with the slogan “a tempo,” which has the meaning of recovery of daily lives from COVID-19.
The film festival, which was curtailed after COVID-19, is normalized after three years and will show festival-style programs again.
The representative music program “One Summer Night” will be held twice on Aug.12 and August.15, and the “Film Concert,” where you can enjoy a movie with the orchestra's live performance, will be held for three days starting August 12.
Justin Hurwitz's “Special Concert” will be held on Saturday.
