SEOUL, May 21 (Yonhap) -- J-Hope of K-pop supergroup BTS has become the first Korean male solo artist to appear on the cover of Billboard Magazine, according to his agency BigHit Music on Wednesday.

The May issue of the prominent U.S. music publication features the rapper and dancer, highlighting his artistic impact and global reach. “J-Hope has long captivated audiences with his commanding stage presence and arresting performances,” Billboard wrote. “His contributions have been central to BTS’s rise as global superstars.”

BTS previously appeared on the cover of the magazine’s special issue in 2018 and again in August 2021.

In an accompanying interview, J-Hope said, “Just as I once drew inspiration from the artists I admired as a child, I hope my music can offer positive energy to someone out there. I want to grow into an artist who brings light and courage wherever I go.”

Reflecting on his solo stadium world tour, he said, “Though I had performed in countless stadiums as part of BTS, this time I had to carry it all on my own. Overcoming that pressure and channeling that energy holds great meaning for me.”

Discussing his recent singles “Sweet Dreams” and “MONA LISA,” he noted, “Both tracks are easy for listeners to connect with but are also a reflection of the expanded musical world I’m creating. This is only the beginning—I plan to explore more sonic experiments.”

J-Hope is scheduled to continue his solo world tour with concerts in Taipei, Taiwan, on May 24 and 25.
