SEOUL, November 6 (Yonhap) -- Research has shown that seven out of ten adults drink more than a cup of coffee every day and spend 103,978 KRW on coffee monthly.
 
According to the October monthly consumer report published by the Korea National Council of Consumer Organizations on November 6, as a result of the "Home Cafe Consumer Awareness and Expenditure Survey" of 500 adults, 75.8% of respondents drank coffee at least more than once a day.
 
It was followed by "5–6 times a week" (12.2%), "3–4 times a week" (8.0%), and "1-2 times a week" (4.0%).
 
As for the proportion of coffee purchase cost, specialty store coffee had the highest ratio at 40.5%, followed by coffee capsules, coffee beans, drip bags, and "delivery apps" at 36.4% and 25.5%, respectively.
 
Three out of four respondents said that they use a capsule coffee machine at home, and 75% of users showed that the frequency and amount of coffee drinking increased after purchasing a coffee machine.
 
44% of users said that their spending on coffee decreased after purchasing a coffee machine.
 
On the other hand, it was found that the price of coffee machines varies from 64,000 won to 2.88 million won, depending on the type and performance. The price was highest in the order of fully automatic, semi-automatic, and capsule machines.
 
The price of coffee beans also varied from 1,290 won per 100 g to 12,300 won per 100 g.
 
Kim Jin-ah, PM of Seoul YWCA, said, "In the case of imported coffee machines, price monitoring is necessary because there is a large price difference between domestic and overseas machines," and added, "As the home cafe market grows, we need to provide information in a consumer-oriented way."
 
Seoul YWCA conducted a survey on home cafe consumer awareness and expenditure costs among 500 adults aged 20 to 59 from July 1 to 20. The sampling error is 4.4 percentage points (p) at the 95% confidence level.
