SEOUL, Nov. 1 (Yonhap) -- The event related to Kimchi will be held at Capitol Hill for the first time.
According to Museum of Korean American Heritage (MOKAH) on Tuesday, an event to commemorate Kimchi Day will be held at Library of Congress on Dec. 6.
This event was co-hosted by MOKAH and 12 members of U.S. Representatives including Carolyn Maloney who submitted resolution for the designation of Kimchi Day.
An event showing how to make Kimchi and various foods made by Kimchi will be introduced to council officers.
The event is to arouse public opinion to pass the resolution before 117th DC council's term ends on January 3.
This resolution, dedicated to celebrate positive example, Kimchi, of cultural exchange between Korea and U.S, was submitted last July, but the house of representative has not yet made a schedule to handle it
However, Carolyn Maloney plans to pass the resolution at the last session in December.
Response of congress is known to be amicable in both the ruling and opposition party considering that resolution has no partisan color.
MOKAH states that the largest number of lawmakers in the history of the Korean-American event held at the Federal Assembly will attend the Kimchi Day event.
Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the House of Representatives, is known to have a keen interest in the resolution of Kimchi day.
The fact that Kimchi Day event is able to take place at Capitol Hill where it is not yet open to visitors after COVID-19 is believed to be with the help of Pelosi.
Pelosi also discussed the issue of Kimchi Day resolution while sharing opinions on ways to strengthen the Korea-US alliance with chairman of the National Assembly Kim Jin-pyo during her visit to Korea in last August.
Director Kim Min-seon said, "Holding a Kimchi day event at Capitol Hill itself will have a very positive effect on passing the resolution," adding, "I hope this event will help congressmen who have not yet made up their minds to think of it in a positive way."
12 lawmakers have signed the resolution for the designation of Kimchi Day submitted by Representative Maloney earlier.
U.S. Representatives such as the House Committee on Foreign Affairs Gregory Meeks, along with Tom Suozzi, Grace Mang, Korean-American Young Kim and Andy Kim, Michelle Steel, Marilyn Strickland and more have sponsored the event.
