SEOUL, May 31 (Yonhap) -- "Da-jung grew up with a harsh mother so she didn't learn how to form relationships. That’s why she closed her mind to her friends. However, she’s such a soft-hearted character.
It is an interpretation made by Won Ji-an(23), the main character of the seezn’s original series "Juvenile Delinquency,” who we met at a cafe in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, on May 25.
"Juvenile Delinquency" depicts the story of high school students growing a field of marijuana plants that they found as they’re in dire need of cash.
Kyung Da-jung is an 18-year-old girl who is being used as a drug mule by her mother in Seoul, and is the first person to notice that the crops planted in the field are marijuana plants.
Won Ji-an said that acting under the theme of drugs felt unfamiliar but new.
She said, "I remember the scene where I worked in the field of marijuana plants at night with a lantern on my head,” adding, "I actually stepped on the soil and put on gloves, so the model marijuana plants felt real.”
In the drama, Kyung Da-jung is being chased by her mother who is a drug dealer. There aren't many adults around her who can offer protection.
The actress mentioned, "The biggest goal of Da-jung was survival. She is a minor but she is already faced with a matter of life and death. Personally, I want Da-jung to stay safe and feel more secure in season 2. I hope she can be comforted with her friends and grow up well with love and friendship."
Won Ji-an received favorable reviews for skillfully expressing the dark atmosphere of a high school student who grew up in a repressive environment.
Last year, she also played a gloomy role of a deserter’s girlfriend in the Netflix series "D.P." and also played a role with the dark mood in her next drama, which was KBS 2TV's "Tell Me Your Wish.”
