SEOUL, July 1 (Yonhap) -- Popular Naver Webtoon series "Eleceed" is set to be adapted into a Japanese animated series, Naver’s affiliate Line Digital Frontier announced Tuesday.
The adaptation will be produced by Japan’s Dandelion Animation Studio, best known for its work on the 2023 box office hit "The First Slam Dunk" and the Oscar-nominated short animation "My Dear Dandelion."
The upcoming anime will be directed by Hiroshi Nishikiori, known for his work on "Honey Lemon Soda."
"Eleceed" is an action fantasy webtoon that follows high school student Seo Jiwoo, who hides his supernatural abilities, as he meets the world’s strongest fighter, Kayden, and embarks on a journey of growth and discovery. Since its debut in 2018, the series has accumulated over 1.42 billion views.
Kim Shin-bae, Chief Growth Officer (CGO) of Line Digital Frontier, expressed optimism about the project, stating, "We believe this animation adaptation will introduce the original’s appeal to global fans. We hope it serves as a turning point in accelerating the global expansion of Naver Webtoon’s intellectual properties (IP)."
