SEOUL, Oct. 21 (Yonhap) -- The 21st Iksan Ten Million Chrysanthemum Festival in Iksan City, North Jeolla Province, has kicked off its ten-day run starting on the 18th. The festival, themed "Blooming Gardens with Ten Million Chrysanthemums," takes place around the Iksan Central Sports Park area.
This year, the event has expanded its reach beyond the Central Sports Park to include other locations such as Sinheung Park, Mireuksaji Temple Site, and Iksan Station, offering a more spacious experience. The opening ceremony featured performances by singers So Chan-whee, Cyburger, and Kim Jong-wook, alongside a lighting ceremony, one of the festival's main highlights.
The chrysanthemum displays this year are arranged in a three-dimensional style, moving away from the traditional linear layout. Additionally, a variety of autumn flowers and illuminated nighttime scenery add an extra touch of splendor to the event. Exhibits are themed around gardens, with sections like the Korean Garden, European Garden, Vegetable Garden, and Children's Garden.
The festival also includes the "Great Iksan Fam Tour," prepared by local youth, where popular YouTubers will guide visitors through the festival grounds, key tourist attractions, and local dining spots, providing a rich experience of Iksan.
Moreover, collaborative events with local businesses, such as the "Eat Well in Iksan" campaign, the "Somri Bitdamgil Nightscape" project, and discount promotions from regional companies, are set to boost local commerce.
Jung Heon-yul, Mayor of Iksan, remarked, "Even after enduring the first frosts, the ten million chrysanthemums bloom elegantly in Iksan once again this autumn. We have prepared a high-quality festival to meet the expectations of both residents and tourists, and we hope that many will create cherished memories while enjoying the season's charm."
