SEOUL, August 10 (Yonhap) -- "Iminjinyeon," a performance by the National Gugak Center which reenacts the last royal feast of the Korean Empire was postponed due to the flood damage.

The National Gugak Center announced on Wednesday that the performance of “Iminjinyeon,” which was scheduled to be held at Yeakdang, National Gugak Center from August 12 to 14, will be postponed to December.

According to the National Gugak Center, heavy rain in the Seocho area on Monday caused flooding in the electrical and mechanical rooms of the performance hall of the National Gugak Center.

“The electrical room that supplies power to lighting and sound equipment in the concert hall, and the mechanical room that operates the heating and cooling facilities were damaged by the flood,” an official from the National Gugak Center said. “As the repair and restoration of the facility is said to be completed till the 15th, there was no choice but to cancel the scheduled performances.”

“As the concert hall is rented out until the end of the year along with the operation plan, the performance has been postponed to December,” the official said. “We plan to replace the year-end performance planned by the Gugak Center at the end of the year with ‘Iminjinyeon,’ but the detailed schedule will be announced later.”

Iminjinyeon, a royal feast held at Gwanmyeongjeon Hall in Deoksugung Palace on December 7 (November 8 in the lunar calendar) in 1902 (Imin year), the 40th anniversary of King Gojong's accession, means jinyeon (feast held by the palace) during the Imin year.

The National Gugak Center's 'Iminjinyeon' is a 90-minute stage performance reenactment of 'Naejinyeon', an event which was held inside the palace during the feast.

The National Gugak Center dance troupe will present court dances while the National Gugak Center Jeongak troupe will play the court music to pray for the emperor's longevity and peace. Director Park Dong-woo, who served as the artistic director for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics, was in charge of directing and stage art.

The “Saturday Performance of Korean Music & Dance,” which was scheduled to be held at the National Gugak Center Umyeondang on August 13, was also canceled due to the torrential rain.
