SEOUL, Sept. 1 (Yonhap) -- Actress Ha Young, whose great-grandfather Ahn Sang-ho has faced allegations of pro-Japanese activities, will not appear in the upcoming season of Netflix's “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.”

 

Netflix said Tuesday that it respected the actress' decision and that Ha Young would not appear in the sequel.

 

“The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call” is a medical drama about a genius surgeon who saves patients with little more than a scalpel. Its first season was released last year and received a positive response from viewers in South Korea and abroad. Ha Young gained recognition for playing Cheon Jang-mi, a nurse on the severe trauma team, and had been scheduled to return alongside Ju Ji-hoon and Choo Young-woo.

 

The controversy arose after Ha Young appeared on KBS 2TV's variety show “Problem Child in House” last month and revealed that she came from a family of doctors spanning four generations. Her great-grandfather was subsequently identified as Ahn Sang-ho, who worked as a doctor during Japan's colonial rule of Korea from 1910 to 1945, prompting allegations over his activities at the time.

 

Ha Young later apologized, saying she learned about her great-grandfather's pro-Japanese activities while researching related materials herself. She said she regretted mentioning her family history casually without properly understanding the painful period in Korean history and apologized sincerely as his descendant.

 

Calls also mounted for Ha Young to leave SBS' drama “We Can Win,” in which she had completed most of her filming, as well as seasons 2 and 3 of “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.”
