SEOUL, Aug. 5 (Yonhap) -- Actor Kim Woo-bin will return to the small screen with tvN's baseball-themed series "Gift" later this year.

 

The broadcaster said Wednesday that "Gift," starring Kim, is scheduled to air in the second half of the year.

 

Based on the webtoon of the same title by Jeong Iriri, the drama follows a former professional baseball pitching coach who gains a special ability after an unexpected accident and is appointed head coach of the nation's last-place high school baseball team.

 

Kim will play Jung Min-yong, a former professional baseball pitching coach.

 

Jung possesses the extraordinary ability to recognize people's baseball talent at a glance and transforms the struggling high school team through his own unique coaching methods.

 

The screenplay was written by Min Jeong, Hae Joo and Sung Eun.

 

The series will be directed by Kim Kyu-tae and Ham Seung-hoon, who previously helmed dramas and series including "The World That They Live In," "Our Blues" and "The Boy at the Back Row."
