SEOUL, June 10 (Yonhap) -- Busan's Suyeong Ward said Thursday that the 24th Gwangalli Eobang Festival will take place from June 12-14 at Gwangalli Beach and the Suyeong Historic Park area.

The Gwangalli Eobang Festival is the nation's only festival dedicated to traditional fishing village folk culture.

It has been selected as a Culture and Tourism Festival by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for eight consecutive years for its modern reinterpretation of the history and culture of "Eobang," a public-private cooperative organization of the Gyeongsang Left Naval Command during the Joseon Dynasty.

This year's event will be held under the theme of "a maritime cultural festival connecting tradition and modernity, and local communities with the world."

Major programs include the original musical "Eobang" and the "Gyeongsang Left Naval Commander Parade." Visitors will also be able to take part in hands-on activities, such as traditional net-pulling and catching live fish with their bare hands.

Suyeongseong Village will be transformed into a drama set against the backdrop of the iconic Gwangandaegyo Bridge.

Kang Sung-tae, head of Suyeong Ward, said the district will continue to strengthen the festival's status as a marine cultural event through diverse programs that combine tradition and modernity, along with environmentally friendly initiatives.
