SEOUL, June 9 (Yonhap) -- Netflix's animated hit "KPop Demon Hunters," which sparked a global phenomenon last year, will return to the big screen this month through a special theatrical release.
CGV said Tuesday it will exclusively screen the film at 30 theaters nationwide from June 12-14.
The limited engagement marks the first anniversary of the film's release and will feature both dubbed and subtitled versions.
Special sing-along screenings, allowing audiences to sing along with the movie's songs, will also be held at selected theaters, including locations in Yongsan I'Park Mall, Wangsimni, Yeongdeungpo Times Square, Dongtan, Cheonan Pentaport and Asiad.
CGV said it will distribute commemorative merchandise to moviegoers on a first-come, first-served basis to celebrate the re-release.
"KPop Demon Hunters" follows HUNTR/X, a girl group of demon hunters, as they battle the supernatural boy band Saja Boys.
The film drew international attention for its unique blend of K-pop culture and Korean shamanistic traditions. Released in June last year, it surpassed 300 million cumulative views worldwide and became Netflix's most successful title ever, overtaking the Squid Game franchise.
The animated feature also earned critical acclaim, winning the awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song at the Academy Awards, as well as Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song at the Golden Globe Awards.
