SEOUL, Nov. 24 (Yonhap) -- Director Yoo Chul-yong, who has produced popular dramas such as "All In," "The Sad Love Story," and others, will collaborate with Hollywood producers on a new film.
Director Yoo of production company Story TV said on Thursday, "We are producing a Jamaican gangster movie after signing a contract with Paul Eckstein, a well-known Hollywood writer."
Paul Eckstein is the producer of "Narcos," a Netflix series depicting stories of the Colombian drug cartel and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and American cable channel Epix's "Godfather of Harlem," which depicts the life of a notorious gang boss in Harlem.
Director Yoo said, "We have discovered the hidden story of Glenn Wawl and Ricky Lee, two legendary figures of the notorious Jamaican gang "Shower Posse," who lived in the United States," adding, "We will complete the scenario work by the end of this year and start casting and producing."
According to director Yoo's explanation, Glenn Wawl is a spy for the gang Shower Posse, which worked in Jamaica and the U.S. during the 1970s–1990s, and at the same time has connections with Bob Marley, a legend of reggae music who helped the poor in Jamaica.
Director Yoo said that this movie is a project that has been planned since seven years ago and continued, "It is unusual for a Korean production company to work in collaboration with Hollywood producers to release pieces targeting the global stage."
He added, "Due to the vast story of Shower Posse, it is also planned to be made into an online streaming platform series after the movie production."
Swedish documentary producer Peter Rinaldo and a professional Hollywood entertainment lawyer, Brad D. Lewis, will also participate as co-producers.
