SEOUL Jnauary 12 (Yonhap) --  “I regret watching ‘The Glory,’ I should have waited until both of the seasons have premiered, it leaves that uncanny feeling because the story was cut very short.”

A lot of comments left on the Netflix original series “The Glory” which premiered on December 30 of 2022, showcase “Do not watch the series just yet,” “I should have waited until both seasons premiered,” and more.

Majority of the audiences who have finished watching the part 1 of the series have experienced a letdown because the season 1 ends without a revenge.

According to the media industry on Thursday, recent trend shown through the ott service and drama series in South Korea are splitting the series into pieces.

Despite of viewers concerns regarding how the story abruptly gets cut in the middle of nowhere, the reason for taking such action underlies with their want to lock in certain amount of viewers until the show ends.

Foreign OTT service Netflix decided to take part in splitting the series in order to compete against Korean.

“The Glory” will be reviled in two parts, part 2 will be premiering in may of 2023.

Some of the viewers are revisiting the series in order to analyze the story revealed so far to find various hidden meanings and guess and assume how the story will unfold throughout season 2 hyping up the upcoming season’s premiere.

“Island” which was revealing two episodes ever week through South Korean platform Tving, on the same day as “The Glory,” on December 30, will also release its second season within the first half of 2023.

“Some of the critics address how the growth of OTT might have hit the roadblock on its way of expansion, because the growth rate of OTT service have been put on hold,” adding “The biggest reason OTT services are splitting the series in multiple parts is to grasp the audiences.” addressed Ha Jae-geun pop culture analyst.

Continuing on, analyst stated “Opening up an episode at a time allows viewers to binge watch the series at once, therefore it does not fit with the profit model of OTT, therefore services have came up with a way to deal with their problems.”

OTT services are not the only ones’ using the splitting tactics with their series.

Recently ended fantasy series by tvN “Alchemy of Souls” was originally planned as multi parted series. Through total of 30 episodes, 20 episodes within part 1 and 10 episodes in part 2 the drama “Alchemy of Souls” successfully explore the grand nature of the multiverse.

Director Park Joon-hwa addressed “I didn’t have enough time for going back and forward,” adding “I wanted to include more of the humane part within the series.”

“Alchemy of Soul” depicts a coming of age story of protagonists from the well known mage family, such Jin Cho-yeon, acted by Arin, Park Dang-gu acted by Yoo In-soo, Seo Yul acted by Hwang Min-hyun, and more. Throughout the part 2 of the series, “Alchemy of Souls,” have reached its highest viewership.

Recently premiered series “Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist” was also produced in two parts.

Director Park Won-wook who led the production of “Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist” addressed “I bet there were people back in the Joseon Dynasty which needed comfort,” adding “Since the story depicts helping out patients who are in need, therefore I thought it was perfect for us to create it in multi seasoned series.”

However, splitting parts of the series is like a double edged sword given the fact that it abruptly cuts the story in to pieces.

One of the well known Netflix series “Money Heist: Korea ¬– Joint Economic Area part 2” which was released in December of 2022, failed miserably.

Despite of their effort to draw more viewers in by creating new characters that does not exist within the original series released in Spain, it was not enough to attract the audiences who have already experienced a huge letdown throughout season 1.

Some of the critics address that it would have been much better if both seasons were premiered at once.

Gong Hwi-jung drama critic addressed “We need to come up with a way we can use to grasp the audiences despite of the gap periods between seasons,” adding “What needs to be done is that we need to make the audience curious about the upcoming events, and the story, also it needs more uniqueness compared to other series so that people can firmly wait for the upcoming seasons.”
